What exactly is a coking plant? What did people use all of the coke for? And especially, how was it made? At the Hansa coking plant in Dortmund, these and many more questions evolving around the topic of coal, coke and steel will be vividly described and conveyed through sensory assimilation.

We offer the following guided tours:

Children’s tour
For children between the age of 4 and 10

Together with tiny coke Carl (Karlchen Koks), little explorers go on a treasure hunt and playfully discover the coking plant while doing so.

Guided tours of industrial nature
For children between the age of 4 and 10

It’s buzzing, humming, crawling, fluttering and hopping on the old site of the Hansa coking plant. Just the right thing for little researchers and discoverers to explore the decommissioned coking plant during alternating themed guided tours

Old coker tour
For children from the age of 10

Together with an old coker, it’s time to cross the site of the coking plant. While doing so, all sorts of interesting information will be conveyed about people, machines and the sweaty hard workers.

Industrial history tour
For children from the age of 10

The tour takes you on the adventure path of "nature and technology" following the coke workers’ tracks. While doing so, you’ll go up into high towers, over countless coke oven batteries and through massive stairwells. The transformation from coal into coke is vividly conveyed.
